Posted by: Webmaster | 23 March 2005 15:52

The Tussauds Group has been sold to a private equity group in Dubai known as Dubai International Capital (DIC) for £800m ($1.5bn).

The Tussauds Group operate several theme parks including Alton Towers, Thorpe Park, Chessington World of Adventures, Heide Park, Parc Asterix, and Liseburg. They also operate Madame Tussauds waxworks in London, New York, Las Vegas, Hong Kong, and Amsterdam.

DIC is an investment arm of Dubai Holding owned by Dubai Crown Prince Sheik Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. Following the acquisition, Tussauds' executive management team, led by chief executive Peter Phillipson, will remain running the businesses. Mr Phillipson said the sale offers new opportunities for growth, and its new owners say they want to expand the business further.
