Kingda Ka to be closed for several weeks

June 14, 2005

Six Flags Great Adventure's Kingda Ka roller coaster is not currently in operation. We are working diligently to bring the ride back in operation as soon as possible. However, we do expect it will be closed for several weeks.

We realize that our guests' expectations for this record breaking coaster are especially high. We apologize for any disappointment or inconvenience this temporary closure may cause.

Please check here for updates on Kingda Ka. As soon as we have determined the specific date it will reopen, we will post details.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Vice President and General Manager,
Six Flags Great Adventure, Wild Safari and Hurricane Harbor

Typical Six Flags. I have always been confused by many enthusiats's displeasure with the company. But, now I have first hand experiences that tend to lead me down the path of agreement with them. I have been to 3 Six Flags parks this year and have yet to go to one that was running even close to 100% capacity. It is as if they think our idea of a good time is standing in queu lines. However this breakdown is probably more on Intamin and not necessarily Six Flags. But with the successful operation of Top Thrill Dragster over the last few years you would think that Intamin has its stuff together. So, it again begs the question, 'Is this typical Six Flags nonsense?'

Yeah well, about Top Thrill Dragster. Their still working out the little things. Yeah, they have the main thing down and it has been running but it still breaks down from time to time. I think that parks should stop trying to break records and start worrying about getting the coaster in working condition. It hurts me to say that because I'm a true Cedar Point fan. All I'm saying is, that they need to finish the product BEFORE building it and not build it then work out the problems. Anyway I love Top Thrill but I agree, I think the manufacturer has to work it out. If that means more R&D;, go for it.

Both of you are right. I don't know why they wouldn't work out all of the kinks before opening a ride of such magnitude to the public. Imagine the type of disaster that could occur if a ride... especially Kingda Ka... broke down in mid run. I really agree with you bsheldon... Six Flags really does think our idea of a good time is standing in lines. That's the worst part about parks like that. They oughtta make the rides with a significantly augmented hourly riding capacity. Anyways... until next time dudes.

I recently heard something about a death on the ride... I went there yesterday. Bummer it wasn't working... it dwarfed every ride there.
