Joyland has been open since 1949 and has always been remembered as a cheap family day out. It's Super Snail ride has been there since the park opened and is rapidly approaching its 60th birthday. The park is kept reasonably clean and most of the staff are friendly and helpful. The park is well set out and well painted. The managers are very helpful when it comes to a child getting lost they will actually go to the office and give a call over the P.A to inform the missing person to meet there parent/parents at a certain point or for the parents to meet there child somewhere. The 2 newest things in the park are the spook express kiddies coaster and the refurbishment on the neptunes kingdom ride. The spook express is quite a good ride for the kids it has had a few improvements made to it such as some lights and models installed in the tunnel and also some spooky music however i do feel that the music being played is far too loud and maybe a little too scary. The neptunes kingdomn ride recieved a major overhaul in 2002 which saw moving fish and models put inside it and all lit via uv lights. I think the fogger machine is a little out of place though and is usually turned on to high so its like riding through fog but otherwise the improvements look very good. I think a couple of the rides could do with being replaced with something better such as the major orbit, the pirate ship and the jet cars. Having worked at joyland myself there had been numerous times where i had heard that the jet car ride would be replaced with american style semi trucks that would run on a rollercoaster style track and would go up through the mountain. It sounded a good idea but still hasnt been installed yet. There are alsoe plenty of information and safety scattered around the park as well as a safety sign on eah of the rides. The park is really well lit at night and overall is a good day out for the kids. So why not come to great yarmouth and give it a try.
