Stealth, Thorpe Park - Review

Stealth - Review

Thorpe Park

Ride Facts and Info

Intamin Accelerator/Rocket coaster. The ride uses a Hydraulic launching system to send riders 0−80 mph in 2.5 seconds. The ride has a dragster car style theme.

Ride Layout

The train launches out of the station leaving a pummel of smoke effects behind at the back of the train. It then continues to pick up speed right up to the vertical ascent, where it then climbs then to a height of 205 feet, turning 90-degrees to the right about three-quarters of the way up.

The train then crests the Top Hat, which is basically like the top of any normal roller coaster hill, before descending vertically to the ground below. The track the twists 90-degrees to the left, and levels out to travel parallel to the ground.

There then follows a small bunny hill, which features magnetic breaks on the downward slope to dramatically slow the train down. It then slowly travels around a flat left-hand turnaround onto the unloading platform, where passengers disembark before the train returns to the station.

Ride Evaluation

Stealth is a great addition to Thorpe Park, and the UK’s line up of roller coasters. For anyone who hasn’t experienced this style of roller coaster before, I think you will be completely blown away by it. The launch is the fastest in Europe, and standing at over 200 feet tall it is one of Europe’s tallest roller coasters. For those of you that have ridden Top Thrill Dragster or Kingda Ka in the USA, you may find it tame, which is my conclusion of the ride.

The launch is solid and fun, but my favorite part of the ride of the two moments are powerful negative g’s delivered at the crest of the Top Hat and at the top of the bunny hill, you really feel like you are going to be thrown from your seat, but it can be slightly uncomfortable on your shoulders due to the overhead restraints.

It’s a shame that the brakes are on the downside of the bunny hill, as it brings the airtime to a sudden stop, but there is literally no more room after the hill for a brake run, and maybe the g’s could be too excessive without it.

All in all Stealth is a great fun ride, but the novelty kind of wears off after a couple of laps, or if you have ridden some of the larger and faster Rocket Coasters elsewhere in the world.
