Superman: Krypton Coaster - Review

Six Flags Fiesta Texas

Ride Facts and Info

Superman is currently the star attraction at SFFT. Designed by Bolliger and Mabillard this steel looping coaster features floorless trains that have no front, sides or floor. Like several rides at the park, it is built on the side of a quarry, and part of the ride also goes over water. Superman is one of B&M;'s most visually impressive rides.

Ride Layout

The ride itself features all of the usual elements, a huge vertical loop on which Superman stands on the top, a Zero g-roll, a Cobra Roll, and two Flatspins (Corkscrews), as well as two good drops and some twists and turns. The whole ride is incredibly smooth and wonderfully paced.

Ride Evaluation

Superman was my first target of the day, and I was on the first ride out sitting in the front seat. They were running three trains and I was lucky enough to get a consecutive ride on the front seat - many thanks to the friendly staff. I also got to sit in the back without leaving the station. On my first two rides there were less than ten people on the ride, this meant that the train did not reach its maximum speed and the midcourse brakes did not come on.

I have yet to ride a floorless coaster that I have not enjoyed and Superman kept up that tradition. They all provide a pretty similar experience, but the terrain makes Superman stand out. I also enjoyed the Cobra Roll more on this ride than the others (Medusa, BKF, and Kraken), but the Zero g-roll did not seem as good, maybe it was due to the empty train.

After three consecutive rides on SKC it was time to move on, but I could have ridden this coaster many more times and enjoyed every ride. The whole ride is top notch, and the front seat gives that extra special thrill. There are even a couple of small spots of airtime on top of some of the hills.
