Flying Coaster, Six Flags Elitch Gardens - Review

Flying Coaster - Review

Six Flags Elitch Gardens

Ride Facts and Info

Zamperla Flying Coaster - Volare model. The ride has 7 cars each with 1 row of 4 seats. Riders board in the standing position as the trains slowly move through the station, the ride operator then closes the restraints and the car reclines backwards into the flying position, where it remains until the car returns to the station.

Ride Layout

The ride layout consists of a spiral lift, followed by a small drop, then a sharp-banked left-hand turnaround that leads to a clockwise Heartline Roll. The remainder of the ride consists of more sharp turnarounds, a couple more small drops, and one more Heartline Roll.

Ride Evaluation

In theory, I really like the cars on this ride since they give everyone a front seat ride, and they load very easily and seem to keep the line moving very quickly. However, in practice they have to be some of the most uncomfortable cars imaginable, sine you are sandwiched in like a steak on a George Foreman grill, and then tossed around like a cocktail in a shaker.

The actual ride itself is not too great either! The turns are quite lethal as they are taken way too fast, and feature quite a lot of headbanging, then during the Heartline Rolls your shoulders get a bashing. There are also no big drops, and due to the compact layout of the ride, you hardly even feel like you are flying since all that is below you is more track or a slab of concrete.

I’m not really a big fan of flying coasters, but when it comes down to it, this is bottom of the pecking order, and judging by the rather short line, I’m not alone in my thoughts. One positive thing about the ride though is that it did seem to be far more reliable than the Vekoma and B&M; alternatives.
